Thanks so much for taking the time to come out and share our portfolio walk on June 28. It is always a joy to watch the students poring over their work, carefully selecting items that they believe showcase their growth. When an 8 or 9 year old decides to choose a piece of work that isn't great for their portfolio and explains that they want to show how they used that piece of work to learn and to improve...well, it just warms a teacher's heart. Students practiced by sharing their portfolios with critical friends from Grade 4/5. This was a terrific opportunity for them to get some ideas and feedback from students who had done a portfolio walk previously. You would have loved to be a fly on the wall that day!
On the 28th, there was a buzz of excitement in the classroom, as students waited to share their learning with a guest. Thanks so much to Mrs Franklin and Mrs Polischuk, for taking the time to portfolio walk with a couple of students. I know they enjoyed the opportunity to hear about our learning from the students, but we really appreciated their time during such a busy week.
My biggest thanks goes out to the parents, though. You embraced this activity and let your child lead. You did some homework, designed by the students, and you took time out of a busy work day to learn more about how your child learns best. As a teacher, it's my favourite day of the year, because I really get to sit back and watch and listen, and know that my students are ready to leap into Grade 4. Thanks for your ongoing support and encouragement. We all appreciate it. Here are a few photos from the planning for our big day.
