Welcome to October!

On Friday, we celebrated the virtue of RESPECT as a school. Though Grade 3FI is filled with respectful and caring students, this month we are celebrating Gabriella, William and Kendra as our class leaders for RESPECT. I can't wait to see who our class leaders for FAITH will be at the end of October. By the way, our class will be teaming up with Grade 4/5 FI during the month of October to prepare and present the Virtue Celebration for Faith at the end of the month.
In other news, we have begun to explore life between 1780 and 1850 in Canada in Social Studies. We have discovered an excellent resource together and are using this text to help us to compare life then and now, and to learn more about the challenges that different groups of people faced at that time. The students have made some excellent observations already, and we are talking about settlement locations, First Nations peoples, technology and transportation, among other things.
We've started using Prodigy in math, and the students are already working on their first Prodigy assignment. They can play Prodigy at home as well, on any device. Please click on the link on the math page for easy access to this excellent tool. What I love about Prodigy is that I can create assignments that are directly linked to the work we are doing in math. As students play, they are practicing the skills we are trying to master, and solving problems related to our work in the classroom.
In French, we are looking at the poster as a way to share messages. We will be applying this important media idea in our work as scientists this month.
Finally, just a quick note about the weather. It's pretty cold in the mornings and we do get lots of wind in the school yard, so please remind your child to bring a hat and mitts to school. We like to spend extra time outside whenever we can, and the warm clothes make that much more comfortable!
Have a wonderful week,
Mme Sarmatiuk.
