September has been a fabulous month in Grade 3FI. We've accomplished our learning goals. We read and wrote personal narratives in English, compared our school to schools around the world in French, and even made our first class movie, promoting Holy Cross School. In math, we've created, extended and described different types of patterns, and have built some specific math vocabulary that will help us to explain our thinking clearly to others. We are getting started in our study of plants in Science, and Canada in 1780-1850 in French. We are able to describe and demonstrate respect for each other and have focused our attention on Habit 1. We are proactive. Our class environment is calm and caring.
Coming Soon: We are going to be using iPads more regularly in the classroom in October. Students are encouraged to use technology at home to practice math skills, and also for reading activities. Please click on subject area tabs for links. Note that some links will work on all devices, while a few (like the National Library of Virtual Manipulatives NLVM) will only work on a laptop, or through an app that will run flash or java script applets.
This week, students will be logging in to Prodigy with my class code, so that they can continue to work on their math skills in this excellent practice environment, while maintaining all of their jewels and points from last year. I set regular assignments in Prodigy which are connected to our current learning goals, so you will notice that your child is doing questions related to the work we are doing in class before other problems appear. This allows me to see which concepts students are most and least comfortable with, and to adjust my instruction accordingly.
As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns by writing a note in the agenda, or contacting me at the school during my prep time (2:25-3:05 daily). I look forward to meeting you at our Open House on Wednesday September 30 from 4-6 pm. Our class movie will be played every 15 minutes, for your viewing pleasure.
